  • Completed the Tierra Soul 6-class program on traditional foods and nutrition based on the teachings of Weston A. Price and Sally Fallon.

  • Focus was on pre-industrial traditional diets that included things such as fermented foods, raw and cultured dairy, sprouted grains, bone broths, etc. as well as related folklore and importance for fertility and general health.

  • Learned how to properly prepare these foods as well as various recipes.

  • Completed the Tierra Soul 6-week long Permaculture Design Certification program, receiving my PDC.

  • Focus was on permaculture principles and design, but one class’ topic was on birth (undisturbed and also unassisted/family birth) and death (home funerals, alternative burial methods).

Holistic Doula Certification | April 2013- May 2013 | The Matrona School of Quantum Midwifery

  • Completed The Matrona’s Certified Holistic Doula 6-day workshop, receiving my CHD credential.

  • We covered topics ranging from basic and advanced doula skills to embryology, how to tell where the placenta is during 3rd stage and assessing the healing of perineal tears in the postpartum, to making placenta medicine, and more.

Holistic Midwifery Diploma | January 2014- Present | The Matrona School of Quantum Midwifery

  • Current student of The Matrona’s Midwifery Correspondence Course, to be finished by December 2017. Upon completion will receive a Diploma of Holistic Midwifery.

  • Covering the basic entry-level knowledge relevant for becoming a midwife, the course blends such things as intuition and communication skills development and eldership training with practical midwifery skills, A&P, homeopathy, and more. The common theme throughout the course is understanding and allowing for physiologic birth and keeping birth undisturbed while developing your intuition as a midwife.

Phlebotomy Technician Certificate | September 2014 | East Coast Phlebotomy, LLC

  • Attended a 2-day phlebotomy technician training, passing my written and skills tests to receive my certificate.

  • The class covered all aspects of safety, venous anatomy, selection of venipuncture sites, understanding of venous vs arterial blood and the basic equipment used. Emphasis in the class was on respectful patient care and how to improve skills and patient interactions. Skills testing was with vacutainer and butterfly.

Alternative Home Abortion Care Provider Training | March 2015, AUGUST 2016 

  • Attended a 3-day Alternative Home Abortion Care Provider training in 2015, and co-taught the same workshop in 2016.

  • Learned about the history of alternative and home abortion and miscarriage management, midwives as abortion providers, herbal abortion, misoprostol abortion, menstrual extraction, Manual Vacuum Aspiration, and holistically supporting others through the process of miscarriage and abortion.

  • This training furthered my own years of study and personal experience with herbal abortion and holistic pregnancy release (loss, miscarriage, and abortion), and at the second workshop I was able to step into a teaching position.

 

MATRONA MIDWIFERY SKILLS WEEKEND WORKSHOP | AUGUST 2016

  • Attended four days of classroom instruction and hands-on practice of introductory prenatal skills facilitated by a Matrona instructor.

  • Skills reviewed included: taking vitals, overview of prenatal visits, palpation, EDD and fundal height, prenatal fetal heart tones, the midwife’s bag, assessing blood loss, and placenta reading.

INDIE BIRTH MIDWIFERY SKILLS WEEKEND WORKSHOP | NOVEMBER 2016

  • Attended a four day intermediate/emergency midwifery skills workshop offered through Indie Birth in Arizona in November.

  • Skills gone over included the following: Vitals, palpation, prenatal FHTs, fundal height, urinalysis with urine sticks, assessing vaginal infections, due date assessment, lab work, charting, nutritional assessment, assessing labor progress, vaginal exams, FHTs (fetoscope, doppler, FHT tool forms, category handouts), assessing and helping mom in labor, food, hydration, vitals in labor, mechanisms of normal birth, newborn resuscitation, breech skills, venipuncture/IV, post partum hemorrhage, shock, miscarriage, estimated blood loss, assessing tears, shoulder dystocia, placenta exam, postpartum assessment, cord blood and eldon card, newborn exam, breastfeeding, and newborn wellness.

Herbal Immersion Program | January 2017-Present

  • Currently enrolled in the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine's 1,000-hr Herbal Immersion Program, to be completed by Dec 2018 and seeking certification
